A Miracle are those Little Things that Happen Every Day
-------------------------------------------------
Hayden's heel curled upwards as she looked toward the front arena, and just past it, the road. She was looking for a light blue trailer with bold lettering on each side. She sat on the worn wooden bench by Pinewood's front door. Insects swarmed in the mid-day sun. Hayden pulled her phone from her leather bag and checked the clock. 1:48 pm. She let out a sigh and pushed her hair back with her fingers. She slowly stood and began to pace the sidewalk. Suddenly a blue trailer turned into the Pinewood driveway. Hayden smiled with delight and walked toward the parking lot.
A few weeks before Hayden was driving back from a bonding ride with Rolex. On her way up the driveway she stopped and picked up the mail. Hayden snaked up the rest of the driveway and parked her car in the tan garage. As she headed for the side door of her house she began to look through the mail. A few things for her father, one thing for her mother, and something addressed to Hayden. She tore it open and pulled it out. It was a bill for a visa credit card. Hayden immediately pulled her card out and checked the number. The number on the bill and the number on her card didn't match.
The first thing on the bill however was a diamond tennis bracelet. Of course Hayden figured out the bill was for her mother. She continued to look over the bill as she walked into the kitchen. She found a boarding fee bill from Green Acres Riding Stables. Her mother was in the kitchen and Hayden confronted her, "Why are you paying a board at Green Acres?" Hayden's mother looked confused until Hayden thrust the bill in her face. Knowing her mother the first thing she said was, "WHY WERE YOU OPE-" Hayden pushed the envelope towards her mother. Hayden's mom stopped talking and said, "I board a horse there. She's old and isn't ridden so I decided to buy her and just throw around some money." Hayden frowned and asked, "For how long" Hayden's mother picked up her phone and began typing as she said, "Oh three years"
After that Hayden convinced her mother to sell her the horse and now here she was. She came with tack and everything. "Hey I'm Bill" A man with a flannel shirt and a unshaved beard said as he walked up to me. "Thats my son William." He said gesturing to the boy who was lowering the ramp of the trailer. "Nice to meet you both" I said shaking Bill's hand and giving William a tiny wave. "So you bought Flower? I don't know how. The last owner seemed to wanna keep her until she died." Bill said as he ran his hand over his beard. Hayden released a laugh and answered, "Yeah the last owner was my mom. I had no idea she was paying for Flower and not going to see her so I just got her to sell to me." Bill laughed and we watched as William backed Flower out of the trailer.
She looked around, her nostrils flared. Hayden felt myself gasp as she took in Flower's light airy mane and her solid confirmation. "Yeah, not bad for 21." Bill said with a toothy grin. William led her over to me and handed Hayden the red lead line. "She's beautiful. Really." Hayden answered as she stroked Flower's cheek. Flower leaned into Hayden's touch and nuzzled her stomach. Hayden could feel the bond already.
"Thank you" She sad as she waved Bill and William off. Flower in one hand and Flower's bundle of tack in the other Hayden took Flower to her new home. She released Flower into the stall next to Rolex, the owner of the horse who used to inhabit the stall had nicely agreed to move to the one across the aisle. Hayden double checked Flower's water and feed then brought her tack and shoved it into Hayden's massive tack box. She grabbed a grooming kit and began to groom Flower.
The curry comb brought up dirt from Flower's under layers of hair, and the body brush swept them away. As Hayden slid the soft brush over Flower's body Flower closed her eyes and rocked onto her front hunches. Hayden quickly picked Flower's feet and wiped her face with a damp cloth. She kissed Flower's muzzle and said good-bye. Before leaving the stable she double checked Rolex's food and water and gave him a kiss too.

The next morning Hayden headed for the stables. She grabbed Rolex's halter and lead line. She patted his nose as he came to meet her at the door. Hayden slipped Rolex's red halter over his face and quickly clipped his lead line to the bottom ring. She slid open his door and lead him out if his stall and toward the side door. She took him to a pasture with three other geldings and let him loose. Rolex gave a happy buck and cantered off to see his buddies.
Hayden walked back inside and slipped into Flower's stall. "Hey hun" She said as she slowly rubbed Flower's back. Flower's eyes were closed and her foot was cocked. "Alright wanna ride?" Flower perked up and nickered softly. Hayden walked out of the stall and grabbed Flowers halter, a green lead line, and a light blue lead line. She tied the ends of each lead line together and then clipped each clip to the side rings of Flower's halter, making a bareback bridle. Hayden walked back into Flower's stall and slid on the halter. Flower seemed to smile, happy to be working again.
Hayden lead Flower out of the side door and to the small pasture next to Rolex's. Nobody was in it which was perfect. She opened the gate and Flower walked in. Hayden locked the gate and pulled off her shoes and socks. She lead Flower over to the fence and climbed up the planks. She slid onto Flower's back, careful not to put to much pressure on it. 'Alright, don't expect much. She's older and hasn't been ridden for three years' Hayden said to herself as she asked for a walk.
Flower bounced forward at a fast walk and waited for Hayden to ask for a trot. The second she did Flower followed and broke into a trot. Hayden sat as best she could but without a saddle it was harder. Flower speed up a bit and Hayden gave her more rein. Haydne moved her leg back behind the invisible girth and Flower broke into a flowing canter. "My god. If I didn't know your age I would guess 15." Hayden shouted to Flower over the "whosh" of wind in her ears. Flower let out a tiny buck just to prove Hayden's point and Hayden laughed.
An hour later the pair was sweaty and tired. Hayden popped off and lead Flower to Pinewood's wash stall. She slowly ran cool water over Flower and let her gave a quick drink. "Alright" She said as she finished toweling Flower down. She lead her back to her stall and released her. Flower walked toward her water bucket for another drink. "See you soon girl" Hayden said as she turned and left the stable.
