Owner Occupation: racehorse trainer
Other Horses? Shadow of a Doubt & Don't Tempt Me
---------------------------------------------------------
Registered name: King's Last Stand
Barn Name: Check the list of barn names. We don't want a million horses called "King" around the stable.
Breed: Thoroughbred
Color: chestnut
Age: 6
Gender: gelding
Height: 16hh
Personality Description: Being paritally blind, King can be very unpredictable, and Anthony learned that one the hard way when he went through the rail not long ago. Recently though, he's been turning into a great big teddy bear. Don't ask why, because no one can tell you. He has just suddenly started loving people since the accident. Before, Anthony never would have let anyone come near him for fear of him hurting them, but now he'd trust him to walk with a free rein and a five year old up on him bare back. It's basically a complete turn around from what he was.
History: King was the combination of two former champions, and expected to be a champion, and he was, for a while. When he was being trained took to everything like a fish to water, and although he was like every other racehorse in that he was high strung and often disagreeable, he had the makings of one of the greats. He was raced once during his two year old season and won it easily as had been expected. His second race was early in his three year old season, and just like before he won it without a problem. His third race some time later he also won but with some difficulty, and threw a huge fit in the winner's circle with all the media and people around, unseating his jockey, and knocking several people to the ground before people cleared out to avoid the horse's frantic flailing.
After that he was a terror. Rearing up at the starting gate, rearing once in the starting gate, panicking mid pack and bolting out, taking out other horses. He finished last every race after that, and it was later determined that though there seemed no sign of blindness, the poor horse was completely blind. Why no one knew. For the next year they poked and prodded him and took him to every specialist they could find, but no one could find the answer. He was retired and sent to live on a racehorse rescue farm where he was shortly after gelded. Within about a year of moving there he was found by a jockey who was currently unable to ride due to injury and was purchased by him. Anthony was certain he could retrain the horse to run again despite his blindness.
King was still almost uncontrollable because of his blindness, but Anthony was determined, and no matter how many times the horse hurt him he kept working with him, until an accident hospitalized the both of them. It set them back a bit, but after only a month or two they were both recovered enough to resume work, and by some miracle, it seemed a bit of the horse's sight had returned in his left eye, though he remained completely blind in the right.
Discipline: Flat Racing
