SHADOW OF A DOUBT
Owner Name: Anthony Lovasz
Owner Age: 22
Owner Occupation: Racehorse Trainer
Other Horses? King's Last Stand and Don't Tempt Me
---------------------------------------------------------
Registered name: Shadow of a Doubt
Barn Name: Doubt
Breed: Thoroughbred
Color: gray
Age: 9
Gender: gelding
Height: 15hh
Personality Description: His soft features and sweet nature make him come across as a gentle children's horse rather than a speed racer. The trainer and handlers can't remember the last time he caused a disruption in the stables. But on the track, the horse is a totally different animal. The moment his hooves touch the soft earth of the track he becomes almost demon possessed, uncontrollable, and bitter. He has everything that was characteristic if a champion racehorse, he just can't seem to focus on racing when he's on the track.
History: His sire was a failure of a racehorse which was retired at only four after drastically losing 12 races. His dam was meant to be a jumper but was too lazy to get off the ground. Doubt was never meant to be, but apparently the only thing his sire and dam were good at was making babies. He broke out of his stall, got in with the mares, and the lazy jumper was the one who ended up pregnant. No one knew what to do with the colt... and to top it off he was a rather unattractive foal. His back legs were longer than his front, his knees were knobby, he had a short neck and large head, and his ears looked like they should have belonged on a mule. So he was put out to pasture until someone decided what to do with him... and was basically forgotten about. Sure, they fed him and all that jazz, but they never did anything with him.
When he was three a racehorse trainer saw him running and decided he had to have that colt, and paid $500 for him. He was a doll in hand and under saddle as long as there was no track in sight, but as soon as there was a track, he would freak out for what seemed to be no apparent reason. He became unrideable and most people weren't crazy enough to try to ride him. When he was raced he always lost or was disqualified because he was too busy trying to start fights with the other horses to really run. They gelded him, hoping it would help, but there seemed to be no remedy to his "evil" personality that came out on the track, and like his sire, he was retired until a young and upcoming jockey who was taking the racing world by storm found him and asked the trainer for a hand at riding him. They were reluctant at first to risk their most promising rider's life on a horse like Doubt, but he persuaded them.
It took months, lots of falls, broken ribs, dislocated shoulder multiple times, several concussions, and probably enough blood lost to give transfusions to a whole army of injured men, but Anthony got that little gray horse to be a real racehorse. They got in the Santa Anita, and ended up winning it, but just a few strides after the finish a horse broke down and collided with Doubt sending him and Anthony through the rail. A broken arm, re-broken ribs, and gnarly gash to the leg were the jockey's injuries, and Doubt was relatively unscathed. Anthony took a year off to recover then started riding again, but after yet another accident on the track he had to take more time off, and Doubt got back into his old ways. He's trying to train him back to being a real racehorse again, but it's not easy.
Discipline: Flat Racing
