Breakeven [Jason]

Numbness. It all she felt theses day. Hurt. Her heart was in pieces. Anger. She hated herself for the things she said to him. The baby. A constant remind of what she lost.

Mel finally went to a doctor. Jason had been right. It made her hate herself even more. She had been out of line and child-ish that night. And watching him walk away cut her deeper than any words could have. She cried that night. Cried until there seemed to be no tears left. He was gone and she wished she had stopped him.

She tried many a time to pick up the phone and call him. She couldn't. She was scared of what he would say. She wanted him to know about the child but she didn't even know what to tell him. So she just picked up the pieces and moved on. Most week days she was at work and on the weekends she worked Scream. She didn't ride him just worked him in the round pen to keep him fit. She didn't want to chance losing the baby. It was all she had left of him. She would talk to Scream about the baby. That he would have a new buddy to teach soon. She was some what happy when she had Scream to distracted her thoughts.

It had been a little over a month now. Not once had she ran into Jason at the barn but then again she only went she didn't see his truck there. She couldn't face him just yet. She figured he needed time just as she did. And today she decided to go the mall to find somethings for the baby. She didn't know if it was a boy or girl yet. But something told her is was gonna be a girl. She didn't know why but she just that is was a little girl in her stomach. And she was starting to show a lot. Everyone was asking but she never said a thing.

As she walked around the mall she stopped at a few shops and got a few clothes and little things like that. She went to the food court for something to eat. She got a sub and sat down at a table and began to eat.

Jason was with a friend of his that had stayed a couple nights at his place with him. Today was his friends last day here so they went to the mall. He had not heard from Mel, figuring she didn't care about him, didn't think she lost a good thing in her life. He wasn't sure at all. He walked around and saw a store with baby clothes and thought about Mel. He sighed and kept walking, talking with his buddy. He took a second glance and saw Mel. His heart raced.

He talked to his friend. "Man, I think you should get going before it gets too late. Keep in touch." He said. His friend nodded and said his goodbye then left. Jason peeked around the corner and looked at Mel. He felt like he was stalking her. From where he was standing, she looked pregnant. He knew it was his. Good for him though, the other girls DNA test proved wrong.. thank god.

He walked in teh store, his straw cowboy hat on, a plaid button up shirt, tight holey jeans, and his black cowboy boots. He felt so outta place. He walked around to the girls section that Mel was in and picked out a cute little outfit... and walked up beside her. "Ma'am, is this what you were looking for?" He asked letting his accent slip just a little bit, to cover up his normal voice. He smiled a little, hoping tha she had grown up a little bit since their little fight. And he hoped they would get along. He really truely wanted to be with her, especially knowing now she was pregnant.

Jason had always wanted to be a dad. He knew he would be a good dad. Just a matter of time when that day would arrive. The day was coming sooner then he thought. He hoped to atleast be married when he had a kid, but as of right now he needed to ask her to be his girlfriend and start there. He didn't want to rush into things like he wrongly did the first day he met her. He really needed to get his butt in gear and try to make this work. Well, both of them really. "Mel, I'm sorry. I miss you. I think about you all the time... please forgive me?" He asked.

Mel quickly finished eating and walked around bit more. She looked in one last store. He walked around a moment then walked over to the girls section. She smiled to herself. She had got over her fears. She knew she would make this work some how. She was goning to be a better mother than her own. She would never be like her mother. She sighed as she thought about Jason. She really missed him. She really needed to call him so they could talk. She wanted this child to have their father in their life. She bit her lip. It was not or never so she decided to call him when she got home.

She was looking at a cute little outfit when a guy came up behind her and asked her if this was what she had been looking for. She stood still for a moment. That twang of an accent. It sounded familler. She laughed at herself. She was crazy that couldn't be him. She turned around to see what the guy was talking about. And as soon as she looked up at the guy she froze.

It was Jason. Surprise washed over her face. After a moment she smiled. It was good to see his face. She listened as he spoke. Her smile faded as he asked her to forgive him. She shook her head. 'I forgave you already, hun. I just haven't been able to forgive myself for the way I acted.' Her voice sweet and calm. She smiled at him. 'I miss you too. I've missed you a lot. Sorry I haven't called.' She sighed. 'I wanted to call you after I found out that I was. I just...I just didn't know what to say and I wasn't sure if you wanted to even talk to me. You've been on my mind a lot thought.' She stepped closer to him and hugged him. It felt so good to hug him.

After a moment she stepped back. 'I wanna make this work if you'll have me. I really am sorry for the way I acted and for the things I said. I was scared. I really didn't mean to take it out on you, Jason. She really was. He was all she wanted and needed right now. She smiled again as she placed her hand on her belly. She really wanted this to work out. She wanted Jason in the child's life as well as her own. She never picture herself having a child at 24, but she was more that willing to be if he'd be there for her and the baby.

Jason listened to her first words. She had already forgiven him just not herself. Then went on to say she was going to call him but pretty much didn't have the guts. He smiled when she hugged him. He hugged her back kissing the top of her head. She wanted to make this work he heard her say. He smiled once again and pulled her from his body for a moment and looked down at her, with a smile on his face.

"Babe, will you be my girlfriend?" he asked right ther and then. He didn't say anything about making this work out, because he figured if he asked that question she would get all the hints. He still couldn't believe that he would be having a child soon, by the time they had the baby he would be 22. He knew quite abit about kids. His lilttle sister being quite a bit younger then him, he had his fair share of taking care of her.

But then he decided to tell her why he wanted her to be his girlfriend, just to make sure he was clear. "I want this to work too. I know we can work through all this and make good parents. We need to get our act together and be responsible adults." He said then reached down and kissed her lips with a passion he hadn't felt since the day they met. He pulled back and smiled at her. "I want to be with you, Mel." he said and smiled caressing her cheek with his thumb.

Mel smiled up at him as he looked down at her with a smile. And her smile grow as he asked her to be his girlfriend. After a moment he spoke again. She listened as she said he wanted this to work to. That they could work through this and be good parents. They just had to act together and be responsible adults. And before she could say a word he was kissing her. She felt the passion strongly in his kiss and she kissed him back. After a moment he pulled away and smiled at her. He caressing her cheek with his thumb as he told her he wanted to be with her.

She smiled. She felt so happy right now. 'Yes, Jason, I'd love to be with you. I'd absolutely love to been your girlfriend.' Her voice was cheerful and happy. She hugged him again. Suddenly there was an ache in her stomach. She sighed and stepped back a few steps. Her hands rubbed her stomach. She had a annoyed look on her face as she looked down at her stomach. 'This child is already so picky. Apparently she didn't like the sub I ate earlier. She looked up at him as she sighed again. 'Want to pick out some outfits and leave? I'm feeling tried and I still need to feed Scream and go clean up my house.' She smiled as she looked into his eyes.

After a moment she turned and started looking around at the clothes and other baby things. She was so happy. She was glad Jason wanted to work it out and ask her to be his girlfriend. She couldn't stop smiling. She turned back to look at him. 'By the way if you haven't noticed I think its going to be a girl. I don't know why but something tells me it is, but I won't find out for a few more months.' She watched him and waited for him to say something.

Jason smiled when she said yes to him.That madehis day. He watched her though as she stepped back rubbing her stomach. He wrinkled his nose a little bit. "It better get use to subway 'cause subway is good." He smiled and looked at the clothes as she spoke about how she needed to go clean her house and feed Scream. He nodded, he needed to bring his horses in the barn so he could ride tomorrow. "Sounds good. I need to bring my horses in anyway. " He replied and smiled.

He listened to her as she spoke again. She thought th baby was going to be a girl. He rolled his eyes playfully. "Well, instead of buying girl clothes, why don't we buy clothes that are nuetral just in case it's a boy..." He said. He looked at the girl clothes, not really knowing what was cute or not.I mean he was a boy how would he know. He laughed a little. "I will surely try to help though." He said from behind her and reached his arms around her, letting his hands rest on her stomach. Jason was going to be a dad... what a weird thought.

Oh his parents weren't going to be fantasticly happy that he got her pregnant before they were even engaged... hell they were mad when they found out the girl was pregnant that asked them when he would be around. But that was the end of that story, she was totally outta his life. He wasn't sure how he could tell his parents. He needed to to get Mel to meet his parents while she was still not huge... and then teh second time maybe tell them... jeez he wasn't sure how to do it.

He looked around at the clothes moving them on teh clothes rack to get a better look at them. He found a shirt that said, "Daddy's Little Girl" and he smiled. "Pretty sure she will have to have this one."He said pulling it off showing Mel. He chuckled a little. He was good with kids, always had been. He just chose not to really take part in taking care of them while growing up, it wasn't a manly thing to do.

She laughed as he said it better get use to subway because subway is good. She seen him nod his head and say that it sounded good that he needed to bring his horses in. She turned went back to looking at some of the clothes. She didn't See him roll his eyes as he spoke again. He said that they should buy neutral clothes just in case it was a boy. But that he'd help. She smiled and shook her head. She felt him wrap his arms around her and rest his hand on her stomach. She smiled and rested her hands on his as she leaned on him for a moment. Her stomach wasn't that big but it was big enough to make people wonder.

She stood there for a moment lost in her thoughts. She was going to be a mother in a few months and she was honestly happy about it. She wished she had someone other than Jason to tell. She had no friends. No parents to care. Maybe her grandfather would, but she still hadn't talked to him in a while. She still felt hurt by him. She sighed as Jason stepped away from her to look at the clothes. After a moment she she heard him that he was pretty sure she will have to have a shirt he had. She turned around as she heard him chuckle. She smiled as she read the shirt is said "Daddy's Little Girl." She stepped closer to him and kissed his cheek. 'And she'll look just like her daddy too.' A heart warming smile formed on her lips.

'Let's get it and head back. She smiled and turned to walk over to the lady at the counter. She asked her for the bags she had brought in with her. She had bought a few other things for the baby. Things like bottles, pacifiers, and a cute blanket or two. She thanked the lady and waited for Jason by the counter. She smiled to him.

"Umm no, I'm pretty sure she will look just like you." He joked and went along with her as she got all the baby stuff she would need. He looked around at the things and looked at a few wondering what they hell it was for and why they needed it. He plodded along behind Mel, being very patient with her looking at stuff and picking stuff up. When she was checking out he looked through the boy clothes, chuckling at a few of them. They had interesting things out nowadays.

He thought about his future, what things needed to change around the house and what not. He had a good kids horse ready, well so did Mel. Journey might not make it til then though. The old race horse that had been shown jumping and english for so long was getting old and not looking and feeling so good this last month. He felt bad for the old man... hopefully he would make it. If not, the horse deserved to leave the earth. He had a great life and deserved to not be in pain. He would have Mel move into his house where it was bigger. He needed to get a bigger truck, and maybe get Mel a car. He needed to get his house fixed up now before the baby came.

He walked to her when she was done and smiled. 'Ready?" He asked and jingled his keys. He took a bag from her and carried it, holding her hand with his free hand. He walked out of the store, and outta the building. He walked out to the truck and put the stuff in the backseat. "I'm gonna have to get a bigger truck, this extended cab won't do for long." He said then looked at her. "Before you get big, would you like to drive my baby?" He asked her.

Mel smiled as he told her she was gonna look like her. She started to think about the child. Her hand rested on her stomach. She wonder what he or she would look like. What would they name the child. She smiled she thought about hold the child for the first time. She started to think of names she like. Girl names she liked wear Zoey, Emma, or Madison. She liked Emma the most. Boy names she liked were Caleb, Caden, Hayden. She like Hayden and Caden alot.

As the Lady finished ringing her up Jason walked over and asked if she was ready. She paid the Lady and said thank you. She looked at him. 'Yes I'm ready. He jingled his key and she rolled her eyes as she shoke her head. She was glad he had came along. She really didn't want to have to walk all the way back home. It really sucked not having a car sometimes. But aleast she had a house. He took the bags from her and held her hand with his free one. They walked out of the store, through the mall and out to where his truck was. She watched his as he put the things in the backseat of his truck. She listened to him as he spoke to her. He said that his extended cab wouldn't do for long that he would have to get a new truck. She looked at her and she smiled.

Jason then asked her if she wanted to drive before she got big enough she couldn't. She wanted to but she was feeling a little sick. The child really must have not like the sub she ate. She rubbed her stomach again. Her face showing she was slightly in pain; it turned a little pale. She looked at him and gave him a half smile. 'I'd love to drive but this kid is really giving me hell for eating that sub. Maybe another time hun. She walked over to the passenger side and got in and waited on him. She really wanted to go lay down she was starting to feel drained.

He looked at her as she told him she didn't feel good. He nodded. He needed to get her home to rest. He got in after she did. He drove home and parked. He got out and got the stuff so she didn't have to worry about it. He looked around and let Sadie out of the back of his truck. She walked behind him calmly. Sadie was a well trained dog. He opened the door for Mel and he let Sadie out in the backyard with Summer. He took the bags into Mel's room and set them on her dresser.

He took his boots off, he may as well take a quick nap with her. "So.. I was thinking. We need to do some fixing up around my house and then you can move in and it will be ready for the baby. We need to get you a car too." He said and smiled. He didn't mind at all about buying her a car. It wasn't going to be a brand new car, but one that would do the job and not break down. They needed a family car... then he would trade his truck in for a four-door so it would be easier to travel around if they were hauling horses or something.

"What do you think?" He asked. He had never taken her to his place, maybe tomorrow he would so she could choose the baby room, the play room and what not so they could get to working on the house. He sat on the bed and took his shirt off so he could lay more comfortablely. He rubbed his face. He adjusted his earings in his ears a little bit then laid back on the bed. He yawned feeling tired too. He waited for her to come in bed and lay with him.

She leaned against the door as the drove to her house. The sun was still high in the sky. She wanted to go see scream but she needed to rest. Work this pass week and her walk to the mall had drained her big time. She yawned. She looked over at Jason and smiled. Everything was falling to together like she felt it should. And him randomly showing up today and them getting things right had took a load of her mind. She felt she could relax a bit now. Soon they pulled into her drive. She walked to the front porch and waited as Jason grabbed the things and let Sadie out of the truck. He opened th door for her and let Sadie in the back to play with Summer.

He walked to her room to sat the things down. She stood in the living room for a moment. She seen the baby book on the table. She walked over and picked it up. She turned and moved to her room as she hear Jason talking. "So.. I was thinking. We need to do some fixing up around my house and then you can move in and it will be ready for the baby. We need to get you a car too." She walked into the room and found him taking his boots off and the stuff sitting on her dresser. She smiled so he planned to stay a while. She thought bout what he had said. It would be easier if they lived together. He probably had a bigger place than him. She honestly didn't he had never took her to his place. He even said he would help her get a care. He asked her what she thought about it. She smiled as she walked over to him and kiss him. 'I'd like that a lot. And living together would make things easier.' She smiled at him then she walked over to her dresser and pulled a pair of sweat pants and a lose fitting tee shirt.Then she layed the baby book beside the bags.

She turned around to to find him sitting on her bed taking his shirt. Her eyes traced over his chest. She sighed and smiled to herself. She pulled off her own boots, then her pants and shirt. She know only stood in her black bra and underwear set that was traced in red lace. She adjusted the bra a bit. Her belly wasn't the only thing getting bigger. Her boobs were too. Soon she'd have to get new ones. She pulled the shirt on and then the sweat pants. She was now more comfortable. She looked back over to see Jason lay back on the bed; yawning. She crawled in next to him. She put her back to him and layed on her side. She moved to pillow beside her up under her stomach. It was really the only way she could fall asleep comfortably. Soon she drifted off to sleep.

Mel's eyes fluttered open and she looked at the clock. They had only been asleep a fews hours. She leaned up and looked over at Jason. He was still asleep. She smiled and slowly got out of the bed so not to walk him. She walked to the bathroom and peed. She washed her hands and face. Pulled her hair back into a ponytail. She quietly walked down the hall and into the kitchen. She opened the frigde and pulled out a jar of pickles. She leaned against the counter and started to eat them right out of the jar.

He smiled hearing her say she would like that. He soon was in bed with her and she had laid down snuggling up with some pillows, her back against him. He rolled to his side facing her and put his arm over her gently. He had fallen asleep as well. In the morning she got up and he was on the other side of the bed sleeping soundly. He rolled over and felt she wasn't there. He yawned and took his phone from his pants he had on and he turned it on. He looked through his texts. That girl still wouldn't leave him alone. She was driving him nuts.

He texted his brother and sister back, along with a couple friends. He set the phone on teh night stand. He stood up and walked out of teh room to the bathroom. He went and washed his hands then walked ino the kitchen, hearing a crunching noise. He saw her eating some pickles. He smiled and walked up to her and took one from the jar. He took a bite of it and smiled. "You got the weird cravings going on don't you?" He asked and kissed her forehead.

He walked to teh back door letting the dogs in. He patted Sadie and smiled walking back into the kitchen. "You wanna come with me to watch me ride my horse?" He asked looking for something to eat, looking through cupboards and teh fridge. His shirt was till off and he rubbed his stomach, hungrily. He found cereal and poored some in a bowl. He added milk and eventually found the silverware and took a spoon and started eating his cereal with it.

Mel stood there for a moment eating the pickles. It odd actually. She hadn't ever really cared for them. But ever since she seen them in the store the other day it was like all she ate. She heard movement down the hall. She figured it was Jason so she just wanted for him to find her. She conutined to eat the pickles and waited on him.

She looked up as he came into the kicthen. She smiled as he took a pickle from the jar in her hand. He ate it as he asked her if she wanted to go with him watch him ride his horse. She watched him move around the kicthen looking for something to eat. As he rubbed his stomach hungerly she got the image of a grizzly that just woke up from a long winther and was hungry as hell. She laughted to herself. Finally he made him a bowl of cereal. She watched him eat for a moment. She sat the jar on the counter and walked over to him. She kissed him on the cheek. 'I'll go get ready while you eat. She walked down the hall and into her room. She changed into a lose fitting pair of jeans and just pull on an older tee shirt. The shirt was just lose enough to hide the bump of her growning stomach.

About the time she had her hair cumbled and pulled her hair back into a ponytail she heard a phone ring. She walked over to the night stand and sees it's Jasons phone ringing. She looks at the doorway and listened. She didn't hear him coming so she figured she would answer it and take it to him. She picked up the phone answered it. A female voice asked for Jason. Mel told to hold on she was taking the phone to him.

The voice was quiet for a moment. But the voice became bicth.y. 'Wait who are you and why are you answering his phone. You know I'm his girlfriend, right. And we have a baby. So who are you bitc.h and why are you answering my boyfriends phone?'. As the voice yelled at her she just moved the phone away from her ear as she walked down the hall. Her face hardened as she came into the kicthen. She didn't even wanna look at Jason. 'Someone called you. Her voice flat with a under tone of hurt or maybe even anger. She handed him his phone and turned back around and went back to her room.

Her heart sank. This was all she needed to deal with. That stupid whore. It had to have been that girl he told her about. She wanted to cry but held the tears. The night before she fell asleep with a perfect little family but her faith was broken and she couldn't help but wonder if Jason had lied to her about thr girl.

Jason was eating his cereal when she went to his room. He didn’t think his phone being in there would be a big deal. He had nothing to hide from her. She was in there a few minutes and came walking back out with his phone open. It was for him. He saw her face; it was not a happy face. It was a face of hurt. He looked at her with concern. He took the phone from her and answered. ”Hello?”

”Why did a girl answer your phone? How could you do this to me? I am with you, your mine. You can’t be walking out on me when I’m pregnant.” She ratted at him. He looked at his phone for a moment and put it back to his ear. ”B.itch please! Shut the fu.ck up and mind your own damn business. I’m not yours. The baby ain’t mine. Leave me the he.ll alone! I will bring in the law on this if you call or text me one more time. I’m sick of this sh.it. And yes she is my girlfriend so grow up, move on, and leave me alone!” He said, his accent once again very clear.

He shut his phone and turned it off putting it in his pocket. Great, now Mel was upset. He sighed and rubbed his face. That girl was a creeper.. totally obsessed with him. He walked to the back to her room and grabbed his shirt and put it on. ”Mel… I’m sorry about that. She is obsessed with me.” He told her, figuring she wouldn’t talk to him right away. He grabbed his keys. ”Let’s go.” He said a little frustrated with the girl. He would just get a new number if it came down to it.

He walked out to his truck, Sadie at his side. He called for Summer and loaded them up in the back of the truck. He got in and turned the truck on and rolled down windows and waited for Mel to come out. When she finally got in he drove to the barn. He had a very upset look on his face. He wished he woulda turned his phone off now. He had things going so good with Mel then the bi.tch had to call him. He groaned and waited for Mel to talk.

Mel stood in her room. She wanted to cry so bad. But she fought the tears and calmed herself. She had to be level headed about this. But her heart stung as she wondered if Jason had lied to her about the girl. She didn't want to believe that girl but her words had been so sure. She shock her head she couldn't be right. Jason had say it wasn't his. That the girl just wanted him for his money. He had to make herself believe. After a moment she had herself calm and level headed. As she went to pull on her boots Jason walking into her room. He pulled on his shirt. He told her he was sorry about what had happened that the girl was obsessed with him. He grabbed his keys and said let's go and walked out the room. She saw the frustration in his walk.

She stood there for a moment breathing deep to help calm herself more. She pushed the girl and what she had said from her mind. She wasn't going to let it get to her. She grabbed her phone and wallet and put then in her back pockets. She walked outside and got into his truck. He pulled out of the drive and they headed for the stables. She didn't say anything the ride there. She just wanted to pushed what happened of her head and forget it. She didn't any reason to talk about it. She heard Jason groan. She glanced over at him and seen he looked very upset. Still she looked out the window and never said a word.

When they pulled into the parking lot of the stables and parked she got out of the truck. Tears in her eyes. The whole lets not think about it plan didn't work at all. Mel gets all frustrated and mad because she's tried of crying she's tired of hurting. She groans and starts toward the barn. And if Jason could read her as well as he seemed to be able to; he would know he needed to stop her. For when Mel was frustrated and mad all she wanted to was ride. It was her get away. She riding and begin pregnant wasn't a good idea. She, no matter how good her horse was, she still could get hurt or worst the baby could.
