-- PERSONALITY
-- LAID BACK: Kegan used to be a really fun guy to hang around, before he met Megan and before she passed away. Kegan was the kind of guy who could be considered laid back and easy going. Sometimes he was even on the immature side. He always partied, and he laughed quite often. He was always there if you needed to tell someone something and he never blabbed behind people's backs or about people. Most of this has changed since Megan's passing, but not the gossiping part. Kegan believes that people should be respected, especially the people that he knows the best. Kegan is quite the gentlemen; he holds open doors and pulls out chairs for girls that he's with. He hasn't been with too many girls, and after Megan's passing, Kegan has only had a few mindless one night stands - in hopes to make himself feel better. Either way, Kegan still believes in chivalry, but he doesn't have many girls around him now that he can use his moves on. Kegan was raised this way, to respect other people but to respect women especially. This has to do with his mother especially, who had enforced this into Kegan. Even his father, Jake, had shown Kegan a thing or two about respecting women. Kegan used to joke around a lot, and he generally tried to make the best out of life. He was usually positive, and even though he couldn’t always keep his temper in check, Kegan was a relatively cool guy to be around.
-- A GRIEVING HEART: After Megan’s passing however, Kegan’s personality has done a sort of flip flop. For the first six months, he was grieving and because of that he was extremely depressed. He spent the first few months in almost a solid state of drunkenness, always going from one beer to the next. The best part about his job is that he could do it while sober or drunk, it didn’t matter. Either way, Kegan took Megan’s death very hard. He went numb at first, then he felt the rawness of the fact that she wouldn’t be around anymore. Their marriage had been falling apart towards the end, but that somehow doesn’t make him feel any better about it. Kegan now has huge trust issues. He can only face one night stands, and even then he makes sure that he doesn’t commit himself to anything he’s not ready for. Kegan really needs a girl who is going to show him it’s okay to love again. Until that day comes around, he will probably flip flop from being in a good mood to being depressed. He doesn’t cry or anything like that, but he will become very quiet when he’s in one of his depressed moods. He will also get a little irritable, he might snap at you for saying something innocent, when he’s in one of these moods. The best thing to do is to either wait it out, or hang out with him at a different point in time. Kegan can’t get out of these moods on his own, but there’s no way he will ask anyone for anything.
-- WITHDRAWN: Megan’s death has changed Kegan. Probably for the worst, but deep down Kegan is a nice guy to be around. He’s polite (most of the time) and he still respects those close to him. He is still chivalrous, and he still enjoys going out from time to time. He is more focused on one night stands, like I mentioned before, but a part of Kegan misses the fact that he used to have someone around him almost all of the time. Being married, and now being single... it is a huge lifestyle change. He has to make all of his meals (which he deals with), but he eats them in silence. He sleeps alone (unless he chooses to pick someone up from the bar). Kegan has no idea when it would be respectful of Megan, for him to start dating again. But he also has seen just how fragile life really is, and it scares the hell out of him. Kegan has never been so worried about something in his life. He used to be so carefree and laid back, but Megan’s death has shaken him up, that’s for damn sure. There are a lot of girls out there that are attracted to his cowboy appearance, but don’t let that fool you. Kegan is a sweetheart on the inside, deep down. He is a soft teddy bear somewhere in there; you just have to earn his trust to be able to see that side of Kegan. Either way, at the end of the day, Kegan’s intentions are usually for the best.
-- LOVES: herding cattle, his truck, country music, beer, relaxing, winning an argument, being competitive, cheeseburgers, restaurants, movies, playing video games, riding horses, ice cream, steak, being on the family’s ranch, his parents, his cousin (Kaine), cowboy hat, cowboy boots, his alone time, hygiene, swimming and being active
-- HATES: how fragile life is, when he looses special people, getting over the loss of death, people telling him what to do, stuck up people, most of his cousins, coconut, cleaning his truck, doing paperwork for the farm, when people come onto the ranch when they aren't allowed, people are who too nosy, sitting around with his thoughts, and annoying laughs
-- HISTORY
Kegan was born on July 6th, in 1986. He was the first and only child that Diane and Jake would bring into their little nuclear family. He was born into the rancher’s life style. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a secretary, but those were only their day jobs. The Diesel ranch was a large operation. They have a lot of cattle, and a lot of land. About a hundred acres, although at one point, they had closer to two hundred acres of land. There are a few barns for horses, and at one point they used to own about thirty horses. Now they have downsized to about ten horses, because Diane and Jake are getting older now, and they can’t keep hiring ranch hands. The Diesel ranch is located just outside of the city limits of Pinewood. Kegan lives on his family’s ranch, his parents had built him his own large house. They live on the property as well, and there are a few other buildings – one where the ranch hands live and a few barns were the cattle and horses are. There are also lots of pastures; in fact, most of the ranch is pasture land. The landscape is full of grass, and there is even a creek that runs through the middle of the ranch land, supplying the cattle with fresh water almost all year round.
Kegan was home schooled by his mother. She took some time off of work while she was raising Kegan, because they were wealthy and she didn’t have to work and take care of her growing baby at the same time. Kegan excelled with his schooling, he is a very bright kid. Kegan learned to ride horses, Western style, when he was a very young kid. He got very good at it, and now he can ride a horse with his eyes closed, if he wished. Kegan has stuck with the rand business, even through the tough times. The Diesel ranch has made lots of money over the years. It has been owned by many, many generations of Diesels. None of them need to have jobs, but when Kegan turned nineteen, he applied to be a bouncer at the local club in town, and he got the job. He has worked there ever since, and if he didn’t like the job as much as he did, he could have quit. Hell, he has so much money in his bank account that he doesn’t have to work a single day in his life and he can still live very comfortably. But Kegan was enjoying life. He had a good paying job, and he still had lots of time to herd cattle and to do what he pleased.
When Kegan got his job as a bouncer, he soon found his future wife, Megan. She was a bartender, and the two of them hit it off. Within a year, Kegan proposed and six months after that, they were officially married. They had gotten married on the Diesel ranch, with the whole Diesel family there. Megan came from a small family, most of her family members were no longer around so her side of the wedding was rather small. Kegan’s side more than made up for it though, and Megan loved the fact that she was joining such a large family. The two of them lived in the ranch house on the Diesel ranch, and they couldn’t have been happier. Megan was into horses; she would go out and herd cattle with Kegan almost on a regular basis. Megan quit her job as a bartender, and thoroughly enjoyed the rancher’s wife lifestyle. She was a great cook, although Kegan allowed her to do whatever she wanted, she liked the traditional role of a rancher’s wife. Two years into their marriage, they started trying to have kids. They didn’t seem able to, and they never really found out if it was Megan’s issue or if it was Kegan’s issue. It didn’t matter to them, they were happy together. Kegan had thought that he had found the one – the one that he wanted to grow old with, the one that he would love until he breathed his last breath.
In the year that Kegan was twenty-four, he got a terrible, chilling call. Megan had recently started to do Western competitions, and she had gone on her own for once. Kegan had stayed back, because things were changing in their marriage. Megan was distancing herself from Kegan, and he was at a loss. Megan had said that she wanted to go alone – she needed some time to think. So, Kegan had unwillingly allowed his wife to go to the competition on her own. She had been very stubborn anyways, so he wouldn’t have won the argument. Anyways, Kegan had been working a shift at the local nightclub, when his cell rang. He only left it on when someone needed to get a hold of him, in case of an emergency. So, before he even answered it, his heart rate was pounding. It was his mother. She told him that Megan had been in an accident, pulling the trailer. Someone had swerved into her lane, cutting her off. She ended up in the oncoming lane of traffic and ended up getting into a collision. Both her and her prized horse, Roxi, were killed in the accident. Kegan had gone totally numb by the news. Sure, their marriage had gotten a little rocky, but that was beside the point. Megan was dead – and so was her horse. The horse Kegan had bought her for her twenty-second birthday.
Kegan fell into a heavy depression. He continued to work and herd cattle, but his parents soon got worried about him. He didn’t speak much, and when he did, his voice was totally different. He was downcast, and he was very solemn now. He didn’t go out and hang with his cousins anymore, and he didn’t go to anymore barn parties or parties in general. He went to work, did what he had to do, went through the motions and then he would go back to his house that he had shared with his late wife, and he drank until he fell into a stupor. Kegan did this for about six months, before one of his closest cousins, Kaine managed to get through his thick head. He convinced Kegan that this wasn’t what Megan would have wanted. She would have wanted him to go on with his life, to find someone else, and to continue on with the Diesel ranch. Kegan slowly got back into the swing of things. He still drinks a bit too much when he can, but he is done with having hangovers. He had spent a full six months in almost a constant hangover, but now that he has cleared his mind a bit more, he is feeling better. He is on his way to a full recovery, now that it has been a year since Megan passed away. It was September 28th, 2010 when Megen passed away.
Kegan is now of the age that he could inherit the ranch, but he has a few competing cousins that are trying to take over the ranch. His parents are getting ready to put the ranch into someone else’s name, considering they are getting older and they would like to just relax and sit back. They would like to enjoy what their hard work has provided for them. Kegan isn’t sure if he wants the ranch or not, but he isn’t ready to give in just yet, until he figures out what he wants to do with himself. Kegan is getting a bit more cheerful, he is laughing a bit more here and there, and when he’s with his cousins he is in a much better mood. There were a few close friends that were always around when he was in his depression, but he hadn’t been paying attention to them. Kegan needs people to be supportive around him, but he doesn’t open up about what happened to him. He used to be a party kind of guy, and he is starting to slip back into that lifestyle again. Either way, Kegan goes around now with an ‘I-don’t-care’ attitude. He would love to eventually have the ranch put in his name, but his parents are reluctant until they know that he has healed completely from Megan’s tragic death. They don’t care how long it takes, they just want to make sure their son is on the long road to recovery.
