OVERALL PERSONALITY: When Chase was little, he was always closed off and rude to people. His dad had modeled to him that being rude and self absorbed was normal. So that is what Chase became. He was the person no one liked to be around and over time it just got worse. Chase never cared about any one other than himself and he was downright rude to most people. He was never afraid to speak his mind and most times he never stopped talking badly. He used to bully other kids like his dad bullied him. When Chase showed up to school with bruises everywhere he got defensive when people asked about them. When Chase got kicked out of his house, he became even more so. He built up a wall around himself and wouldn’t let anyone in to help him. On the streets, there was even more trouble than just in regular school. He became more defensive and he became sneaky and he disobeyed everyone. That was before Macey and her family rescued him.
After Macey rescued him, he was still as disobedient and selfish as he was before. He treated them like his father had treated him, minus the physical abuse. He was ungrateful when they bought him this gorgeous horse and he refused to ride him. After a few weeks of not riding this horse Chase started to think. He thought about how ungrateful he was to this family and he decided it needed to change. He started to be nicer to the family, he trusted people more and he became less selfish. He is still working on changing but he has come a long way since he moved in with Macey.

OVERALL HISTORY: Chase was born on December 10th 1992. His mother was unstable when she gave birth to him and because of that she died right after he was born. From then on his father was his caregiver. But Chase wished he was alone. From a young age his father would abuse him. Whenever Chase did something his father didn’t like he would get beaten. This was when Chase wasn’t even 10 yet. Chase learned from his father that violence was acceptable in any situation. So at school Chase got in trouble because he ‘wouldn’t respect the hands off rule’. Chase got to think that was pretty funny which got him in more trouble.
When Chase was eleven his father kicked him out of the house. Chase would roam the streets at night just for something to do. That was when he got into the gang stuff. He would skip school to hang out with his gang buddies. He no longer was in contact with his father. He later heard that his father had died of cancer. Chase leaner dhow to be a real gang leader and how to live in the streets. He lived off of barely anything, stealing food as he went along and sleeping in a stolen sleeping bag. He traveled all over the country wandering with no place to go. One day he was in the Supermart in a town, he didn’t keep track, and he noticed a girl walking towards him. She extended her hand and introduced herself as Macey. Chase had no idea what this girl was capable of right then. When Macey heard that Chase was homeless she immediately let him stay in her house.
Four years later Chase was still living in Macey’s house. Her parents had officially adopted him when he was 14. Much to his dismay they wouldn’t just let him go live on his own. They took him in and treated him much better than he treated them. They believed in him when no one else did. He used to betray them and they would always punish him which would make him disobey even more. Finally they couldn’t take him any more so they gave him away to their friends who knew how to deal with ‘troubled teens’. He thought they were sending him as a joke because he thought it was pretty funny that they thought he would be cured of his misbehaving just by sending him to a shrink. He spent 1 year there and no luck. So they finally decided to find him something to do. They found him a horse to ride hoping it would free him of his behavior.
Chase named his horse Red Rock's Last Chance because he felt this horse was his last chance to shape up.Red is a thoroughbred, Trakhenir cross. Chase was amazed at the talent this horse was showing. He decided that he would learn how to ride this horse by himself with help from Macey. Chase set his mind to this and he started to see results. Not only was he getting better at riding but he was beginning to be a better person. He still gets like he used to but it is now few and far between the times he does. He really hopes he will be able to trust people fully now. Macey’s parents have rewarded him by allowing him to go to Pinewood but Macey is there as well to keep Chase in line.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:
Today was the day I have been waiting for since I got here. I finally get to tryout today. I woke up at eight this morning so I had a lot of time to get ready. I pulled on my new black breeches and show jacket. I wanted to look my best so Mr. Connor would know that I'm serious about riding, unlike school. I skipped breakfast, wanting to get down to the stables as soon as possible so Red would look as good as me. Once down at the stables, I set out all of Red's freshly cleaned used tack on a saddle rack in the aisle. After I had gotten out all of my supplies, I pulled back the bolt on his stall door. I slid back the door all the way and laughed. Red was still sleeping with his back foot cocked. "C'mon sleepy head, time to get to work." I said clucking. He immediately stood up and walked over to me nosing my arm. I grabbed hold of his halter and lead him to the nearest set of cross ties. I had my pick of cross ties because no one else was here yet. I got to work unclipping Red’s blanket and put it in his stall. I picked up my curry comb and started circling it over his coat. He wasn't that dirty so it only took 15 minutes to groom him. I checked the time. I still had 1 hour therefore I decided I would braid his mane. I grabbed my braiding comb and elastics and started to braid it. After 10 more minutes that was finished and I had moved onto tacking him up. I lightly placed the saddle over top of my black saddle pad and white fluffy half pad. I did the girth up to the 2nd hole on each side. I would tighten it more when I got into the ring. Looking at the clock on the wall, I knew I only had 5 more minutes before I was do in the ring. I grabbed Red's bridle and took off his halter. Red accepted the bit and I slid the brow band over his head. I fixed the bridle and grabbed my crop. I led Red into the ring and mounted him. While waiting for Mr. Connor I warmed Red up.
Mr. Connor walked in while I was warming up. I warmed Red up for a few minutes then Mr. Connor signaled me to do a posting trot. I posted on the right diagonal and posted for 3 laps. I then switched directions staying in a posting trot. I circled 3 laps this way. In the next corner I sat for 3 strides before asking Red to canter. Excited to canter, he immediately sprung into a nice and easy canter. We lapped around the ring 3 times before I eased Red off the rail straight across the diagonal. I got ready to perform a flying lead change. I eased my outside leg back and my inside leg forward. Without hesitation he switched leads. With my new inside leg and rein, I asked Red to bend around the corner. I went off the rail on the diagonal in the other direction and asked Red for another flying lead change. This lead change wasn’t as good as the first one but it was still satisfactory. I slowed Red down to a collected trot and then a marching walk. Mr. Connor then went to set up the jumps. “Um, Mr. Connor?” I knew I was making a brave move here but I wanted to show off my talent. “Do you mind if you set the jumps up as a six bar format? I know you will be impressed with our talent. Make the jumps as high as you want.” I smiled when he agreed. I then walked Red around to keep him warm.
Mr. Connor had set up 6 jumps in six bar format. The first jump was about 2’6 and the last one was about 3’8. Easy Peasy. Red had jumped higher when we were competing on the “A” circuit. When he motioned for me to take the jumps I went from a walk to a canter in 1 stride. I circled Red twice before pointing him at the jumps. He didn’t even hesitate at the first 3 jumps. It was when they hit 3 feet that he started to be wary. He has never seen these jumps before so it was scary going up to such tall fences without seeing them before. Luckily from a quick tap of my crop he settled down and managed to clear the rest of the fences. I did a wide circle and then pointed him at the course again but backwards. He was getting tired now. We had an intense tryout and it wasn’t over yet, only 6 jumps between us and the advanced team. I hoped I would get onto that team. I would take the intermediate team but was really hoping for advanced. I turned my attention back to the course. Red had started to drift when I was lost in thought and it was too late now to correct it. I just sat quietly on his back and hoped he would be able to clear it. Much to my dismay, his back hooves rattled the pole and sent it thudding to the ground. I made my attention go to the next fence. It wouldn’t help if I stayed rattled from that one fence. Red was starting to trot and from a quick tap of my heels he put on a new burst of speed. We managed to clear the rest of the course. I immediately slowed Red to a walk after we had finished the course to cool him off. I walked him a few minutes for Mr. Connor to make his decision. After a few minutes I hoped off, ran up my stirrups, and undid my girth a few holes then sauntered over to where Mr. Connor was. “So, how’d I do?”
