Owner Age: 20
Owner Occupation: N/A

---------------------------------------------------------
Registered name: Scarlet Letter
Barn Name: Scarlet
Breed: Hanoverian
Color: Blood Bay
Age: 6
Gender: Mare
Height: 15.3 hands
Personality Description: Scarlet is a bright, opinionated mare with a stubborn streak characteristic of her gender. She’s highly sensitive with a fiery temper, and she’ll take people on without a second thought, which is what makes her a somewhat dangerous ride. She’s not a forgiving horse, and if she’s goosed or frustrated during a training session, her rider will spend the rest of her time in the saddle apologizing for the mistake. Scarlet likes to have things her way and when forced into something, she will do whatever it takes to get herself out of the situation. On the ground, she’s very in-your-pocket to the point where she could easily be labeled pushy and she needs a firm hand to keep her in line.
History: Though Scarlet is a registered Hanoverian, her mother is actually a purebred Thoroughbred mare who was accepted into the Hanoverian studbook. Scarlet was born on a big family-owned farm and was handled from day one, which is what has resulted in her very friendly approach to associating with people. She was sold as a two year-old to a dressage trainer and started her training a year later. After several months on the lunge line learning to carry herself and build the topline muscles that she’d need to carry a rider, she was backed without drama and spent a year in light work. By the time she was four, however, it was evident that dressage wasn’t going to be her calling. Sensitive and agile though she was, she was long-backed and delicate. The last straw was when she started jumping out of the paddocks. She was listed for sale and was sold several months later to a hunter/jumper rider looking for a project.
Unfortunately, things went rapidly downhill for Scarlet. Young, fresh, and athletic, it became clear that she was too much for her amateur owner to handle. After throwing her rider, Scarlet was put into training with the head trainer at the barn, who rode the mare in a harsh bit with draw reins and more spur than necessary in an effort to curb her energy and mare-ish rebellion. Scarlet reacted by becoming sullen but volatile, and it wasn’t long until she was listed for sale again. Sally Sinclair’s trainer bought the mare for a rock-bottom sum and brought her back to her farm and put her out in a back pasture without a second thought. Sally started riding the mare because no one else had time for her, and fell in love. The mare is still quite green but is a quick study, and did some low level jumper classes at the end of last summer.
