Jenica James Collins Shirt, Breeches, Boots
The dust flew through the air as the deep blue truck pulled up the drive. Behind it came a large horse trailer. As the truck came to a stop the door flew open. Our stepped a young woman, around the age of 16, standing at five foot one. Walking at a brisk pace she walked to the back of the trailer. Another woman, this one much older, around the age of 45, followed her around back. The girl have her a eye roll as she opened the back. "Here, let me help you! The older one said as she racked toward the door. The younger one have the woman a look and immediately she backed off. If I wanted your help I would have asked! she said, her voice very bland. The girl turned back to the door and unloaded a silver colored mare. The girl looked very small next to the 17hh mare. Grabbing the lead she led the mare away from the trailer and toward the barn. You know, I didn't have to take you here! The older woman said. She shut the trailer door then followed after the girl. Yeah, and I didn't have to move here either! The younger one added as she led the mare into the barn. The older woman stopped head. Jenica! I did what was best for you! Look at that arm, it still needs the brace. The woman said, her eyes full of hopefulness. Jenica stopped, the mare stopping obediently at her side. She looked at her braced arm. It was funny how such a small thing had done so much damage. My arm is fine, and you may think you did what was best, but it wasn't best for me. You ruined my life. Jenica said, giving her mother a very cold look. then she walked to the barn, dragging her mare with her.
The clicking of hooves and boots on the aisle floor was the only sound as the two came up to an empty stall. The new shiny name plate read Moonbeam. Looking at her mare she tried to smile. Well Darline, welcome to your new home! She said, eyes starting to fill up with water. She led her mare into the stall and took off the lead. She hung it up and then stroked the mares silver colored head. She nudged her hand. Jenica tried to smile, but allowed the water to spill instead. She blinked her eyes, then leaned her head agents Moonbeams. It's just you and me now Moon. Were all alone! She said.
After a few moments she leaned away from Moonbeam, and used her hand to wipe her eyes. With a smile to her horse the closed the stall door. I'll be back soon Sweetheart. She said as she walked back to the barn entrance. Her mother greeted her their, but she just walked past her. She headed back to the trailer and took out a well used saddle and bridle. Laying the bridle on the saddle she then took out a slue of colorful blankets and brushes. You can go now. Jenica said as she walked past her mother again. Her mother watched her enter the barn before following Jenica to the tack room. Her heels looking badly out of place in the barn. Jenica, I won't be talked to like that! She said. Jenica first dropped most of her stuff on the floor then turned to look at her mother. As far as I can tell you did this to yourself. She said as she started to put her saddle pads on an empty rack. I was happy where I was, and don't pull that whole 'It wasn't me fault' because it was. You may have said it was for your job, but you and I both knew it was to get me away from Townsend. She said as she grabbed her saddle next. I was happy their, I had a life..and...and friends. You took that away from me. You had no right to do that. She said, giving her mother a cold look. Her mother gave a sigh. The look in her eyes was pure sadness. I did what was best for you. At that place...you got hurt! Look at your arm. That's serious. Taking you away was the only way to keep you from throwing your life away! That stuff you were learning their, that racing you were doing...that isn't a future! It is a death sentience! I didn't want that for you! She said as she watched Jenica. When she finished speaking Jenica turned to look at her. I was happy. That's what should have mattered. And racing isn't silly. It's a lifestyle, one I had chosen for myself...so if you think taking me away was what was best for me, then you don't even know me. She said as she finished putting her things in their new places. Now, Please leave. I'll call dad when I'm ready to go back to that place you call home. She said as she walked out of the tack room and back to Moonbeams stall. She gave Moonbeam a look, then the tears started to fall, much faster then before. Moonbeam gave a small whinnie. Jenica looked at the mare and sighed. she leaned her hand on the stall door, then her head up agents that. Ooh Moonbeam...what are we going to do now?

a sharp, clear whistle filled the air and soon a mare was racing towards a lone women standing in the field. her white legs moving quickly across the fields grass. she gave a grunt of happiness when she finally reached her owner, gave her a gentle nudge with her nose as a 'hello'. with a small pat on the mares forehead, her owner, erica, gently slipped on her halter and took hold of it. leading her beloved mare out of the pasture, a blue truck pulled up, and as soon as it stopped, a young-looking girl flew out and ran behind the trailer. 'must be anxious to get here and see everythin'.. erica thought, opening the entrance gate. pulling the horse out and shutting it again, the faint sound of someone talking went into her ears. as the duo strolled inside, it became clearer .. and clearer.
once in the barns aisle, erica saw a horse and the girl coming in. the horses was beautiful. its silver pelt shone in the sun, and looked good when inside. seeing them walk in, erica turned and glanced over her mare. storm was dirty, no lie about it. her blanco legs coated with a thin layer of mud, grass, and a few leaf-particles. the rest was coated with the regular dirt. erica was a bit embarressed that her equine was dirty but, she didn't mind. some of her horses were happier when they were dirty. they would soon get a bath anyway.
erica walked storm towards her box, and let her in. the mare casually strolled in and over to the window. peering out, she squeeled loudly, then turned towards the water. she began lapping at it while her owner left her. "i'll be back." was all erica spoke as she made her way towards the tack room. the girl that was talking before, seemed to be yelling this time. erica tried not to listen, but when many people weren't around, and horses were out, it was almost impossible not to. seems her and her mother were argueing over racing, and whether it was a style of life or not. erica only shook her head, and went inside the tack room.
the aroma of leather and fly spray flew into her nose. taking a deep breath, the young women went to her tack and grabbed a duffle bag. it was rather heavy in weight, but was important cause it was filled with everything from neosporin, to hoof picks, to grooming supplies. if you asked for it, it most likely would be found in the bag. as she carried it out, the girl seemed to have been sho-ing her mother off. erica gazed down at her, and she seemed to be either disappointed, or sad. she was too far to tell. so erica just went back to minding her own business. she carefully plopped the bag down outside of her equines stall, and ulatched the door.
before she could push the door open, the soft sound of someone crying caught her attention. was it the new girl? maybe.. since they were the only ones really there. erica stood in silence for a moment, then strolled down the aisle to find her. soon, she had found her when she placed her hand on the door. when she asked her mare the question, erica glanced at them both, her silver eyes flicking quickly before saying anything to them.
"what you could do first is stop cryin'.. your make-up is startin' to run." erica said, gazing at her. then, she shifted her weight to one foot, and crossed her arms. "now, if you don' mind me asking .. what's wrong?" said erica, who glared down the aisle at her mare who was picking with the one neighboring horse she did have right now. she laughed quietly then turned back to the girl and her horse.

Only when she herd footsteps, and not heels, did she first realize that their might be other people in the stable. Soon her sadness turned into embarrassment. Though she wasn't happy about being there she didn't want to be labeled a cry baby either. In fact, that was most likely the last thing she wanted. Being here was bad enough, but being all alone could passably make everything worse. Sure, she didn't expect to find friends like she had at Townsend, but she didn't want to be labeled and avoided. With that knowlage, she had to wonder why she couldn't stop crying.
It wasn't until the person was behind her that she stopped her tears. She was ready for the comments, and all that was to come with it. When the words did come out they sounded too much like something her sister would say. With a quick glance at Moonbeam for support she turned around to face another lady, around 18 or so as she would guess. Jenica have her red eyes a whip with her hand. You know, it's odd. I was never one for make up...One weekend my sister put some on me, and my mom commented on how pretty I looked. I was always looking to please her, so I got into the habbit of putting it on...even though I don't wish to please her anymore. " Jenica said. Then she looked up at lady. You ask what's wrong...well, I'll tell ya. I'm in a new place, new house, and I miss my old life terribly. My mother doesn't seem to care, and my arm hurts!! She said, then shook her head. Then she realized how crazy she must sound. Looking back at the girl she bit her lip. "I'm sorry...I don't know why... She shook her head again. I'm Jenica... She said and tried to smile.

listening to the young girls words, erica could see where she was coming from. she too, also had to move away from her old life, make new friends, a whole new beginning. yet, this girl was lucky, her mother was with her. "ya know.. you say your mother don't care, when in reality, she loves you with all her heart and cares for you. kids always say 'they don't care'. but when the kids leave home, look who's cryin' first." erica said, taking a pause to catch a quick breath of air. what she stated to the young girl, was basically a fact. mothers were the ones always crying in the doorway when their children left home. a bird leaving the nest, a foal being weaned from its dam, always sad no matter what. "and you miss your old life, huh? well, starting a new one can help you think less of it. making new friends, seeing new places, makes you think of how much better somewhere else can be. your a lucky kid, you get to travel. and have a gourgous horse with you. most people can't even afford a horse." she added, slowly reaching her hand out to the mare in the stall with her owner.
when the young girl said her named, erica made a mental note, not to forget. "hello jenica. i'm erica. nice to meet you." said erica, her eyes looking at hers. "i'd love to stay and chat with you, but i got horses to work. when i'm done, we can finish talkin' if your still around." erica said with a sweet smile and a quick wave before walking down the row of stalls towards her beloved mare, storm. the sweet quarter horse was playfully picking at her neighbor, squeels and shrieks filling the air from her box. erica stood, resting against the outside wall, watching. she let her knee bump up against it, trying to distract her playful horse and get her to move towards her. her plan worked, and the equine quickly turned and nuzzled her owners shoulder, begging for a treat. the young womens silvery eyes only stared into the dark ones of her horse, before opening the door, and stepping inside. halter in hand, she tied the horse. then, she exited to walk towards the tack room, and get her grooming bag to do some grooming.
