Josh was sitting in his office when he had gotten the call from Kate, who was on foal watch during the night, and told him that one of the Kings mares was showing signs that she was starting to go into labor. She almost sounded frantic and excited, but kept herself calm over the phone. " Okay, I'll be there shortly. Don't let anything exciting happen before I get there," he chuckled and finished signing off on some labs, packed some supplies, and walked down the stairs and out of the clinic. He threw his stuff into his truck, and climbed on in to make a long drive out to the stables. It wasn't too long of a drive, the clinic was in town and the farm was just on the outskirts, but it was a scenic drive out. As he drove out, he listened to some of his favorite music, and couldn't get that Kasha girl out of his head. Since their first meeting, he couldn't get her face...and that smile out of his head. He smiled and shook his head, " Get a grip mate..."he said as he rounded the corner and turned down the dirt and gravel road leading to the barn. He puled up to the side of the breeding barn, and he was met by Kate who was walking out at the fast pace to update him on the progress.
He reached into the back seat, grabbing his supplies, and climbed out of the cab of his truck. Kate smiled and hugged him, and pulled away. " I've wrapped her tail, and put in extra bedding for when the foal drops. Right now there's a little bit of discharge, and she's showing no signs of distress or..." he was cut short when they both heard the mare whinny and make noises. They dashed into the barn. They got to the stall, and the mare was pawing at the bed and starting to lie down. Kate opened the door , and Josh walked right in and slowly approached the mare. Kate's phone went off, and saw that it was Holten. Oh no, she totally forgot they had their 3 month anniversary date tonight. She groaned, and Josh looked at her. " Go, and do what you need to do. You did well watching her overnight, I'll take it from here,"he said. Kate gave him a tired grin, and walked off and answered her phone.

Kasha had gotten to the barn late. It was her day off from riding her clients mounts but she had intended on riding Clue before any one else had gotten there, just like she has always done. There's nothing like coming to the barn in the late hours of the day. The horses usually weren't fed yet but the barn would have a sweet silence held over it, the typical sound of a relaxing night of horses sleeping and still munching on their dinner. The silence would always seem to heighten the bond that she has with Clue. On an average day she'd come early to take him on a hack before working her clients horses. After riding the other horses she'd ride Clue again but they would be doing some educational flat work or some other physical work out that needed some more tuning. Since she hadn't ridden him this morning she already knew that he was going to be a hot headed beast so an intense jumping workout was in order. It had been a while since she had jumped him big. Usually they'd compete in any jumpers over 5 feet, maybe that would do some courses of that.
While pulling into the parking lot she noticed Kates car was there as well as someone elses, which was odd since no one other than Kasha would get there this late. After all it was 9pm and all the lessons had ended two hours ago, the only time anyone would stay this late would be for prepairing horses for an upcoming show or something happening in the breeding barn. Seeing how no one contacted her with news from any of the horses that she rides, she figured that it was none of her business.
Shutting off her truck she went directly to the tack room. Before she was able to even grab any of Clue's tack she heard a screaming neigh, it sounded as if one of the horses was being brutally attacked. A fear of having an injured horse within the facilities she quickly strolled down the isle to find that every horse was preoccupied with either sleeping or eating. She went into the breeding barn and noticed that Kate had just exited the barn but one of the stall doors was slightly cracked open. Kasha hadn't really come into this barn much other than for a time that a woman wanted to breed her Irish Sport horse with Clue but her mare wouldn't take. Coming up to the stall she noticed the mare was in the process of giving birth and that Dr.Stokes was there. The instant she noticed him she sort of froze like a deer in the headlights. She could feel heat coming to her cheeks when their eyes met, oddly she was lost for words. "I hadn't known you were an on call vet. Figured if you were I'd of seen you sooner." She smiled, of course her brain didn't filter that but how could she resist? He was just so..so..is there even a word for it?

Kate held her phone to her ear and smiled when she started to talk to Holten, and she walked out of the barn. Waving at Kasha, she walked to her truck, and pulled out to go home. Josh stroked the mare's neck, and recorded her breathing patterns, and checked around her to make sure everything was okay. He checked her pulse...normal, and then checked to make sure that she was indeed ready to go into labor. The mare looked at him and lowered her head and touched her nose to the ground. It looked as if she were a woman and was screaming, " Get this thing out of me!!" He stroked her face and whispered, " I know girl, I know. You're in good hands," he said softly and got up just in time to see Kasha standing on the other side of the stall. She looked like she had seen a ghost, so he flashed her a smile.
" Dr. Craft was the one tending to Breeze, but he was called away to Jasper County. Kate called me because Breeze was actually due a week ago, so now that she actually is going into labor she wanted me to be here in case there were any complications during the birth," he told Kasha and saw her get out of that " deer in the headlights" look. He ran his hand over Breeze's stomach, and looked at Kasha and smiled. " You can come in here if you want to. I'm sure Breeze won't mind. I can feel the foal move a bit, which is a good thing." he motioned for her to come and kneel beside him, and when she got closer he gently took her hand and placed it onto the mare's belly. The mare let out a moan and got up suddenly.
