Outfit: www.polyvore.com/spring_formal/set?id=6867201It felt good to be back at Pinewood, it had officially become her home away from home. She had been away from Pinewood for some time due to family troubles. Her mom's cancer had come back, and she was the only one who was really able to take care of her, so she had to stop her life here and go and take care of her. She came back to see her friends, and then went back for a few more months to take care of her mom some more as she went through treatments. It pained Kate to see her mom like this, she always saw her as a strong person, but now she was so week from treatments. She had also not heard from Holten, the love of her life for some time, and that made her worried and scared for him. Kate had come back to stay, and got an invitation to Logan's brother's wedding. What a nice distraction from her personal life. She flew back a day earlier than she told Logan, and knew it would be a nice surprise to see him again after a few months of being gone again. She drove into the neighborhood, looking at all the tall houses as she passed, and soon found the extravagant country club. She parked her truck and stepped out and removed her shades. Wow, it seemed everyone who came either owned and Jaguar, a Porsche, a hummer or some other snazzy expensive car. She felt like a fish out of water. Her F-150 certainly would stand out. She swallowed a lump in her throat and walked down the dirt path to the garden area where the wedding was being held. Walking down the way she saw Logan's mother, and she smiled. Of course, Mrs. Harding was always overjoyed to see Kate as always. " Oh thank the Lord, Kate you came. So glad you could make it," she cheered and rushed to her and took her in her arms and held her tight. Kate smiled and got sucked into a conversation with her for what seemed like forever. They did have alot of catching up to do. " Where is Logan," asked Kate. His mother smiled and pointed her finger at her, " He should be with his brother since he is the best man after all. Good to see you sugar," she said and let Kate go. Kate walked through the garden away from the gazebo and saw Logan not with his brother. He was chatting up some girl, probably a bridesmaid, and she stood still and watched them. She shouldn't be jealous. She had no reason to be, because he said he needed a beautiful, fun girl to make all the bridesmaids jealous. She fixed her hair and looked around, feeling a bit awkward just standing there, so she slowly turned to not look like she was eves dropping.

In Logan's mind, rehearsal dinners were a pointless event set up to give the bride and or groom one last chance to have a mental breakdown. As horrible as it sounded, that was usually exactly why he never missed an opportunity to attend one. Where else could you see an infuriated bride throwing plates at the groom's head or find the groom passed out in the men' restroom? Not to mention the bridesmaids getting half wasted on red wine and crying about their failed relationships... but this time he was going to have to control himself. His brother had dated this girl for over three years and this engagement was a long time coming. It didn't mean he couldn't silently snicker at the over-bearing mother-in-law or the clueless grandmother though. If Kate were here she'd understand.
Logan stuffed a hand in his black dress pant pocket and scanned his eyes over the small crowd of people, desperately looking for a way to escape the incredibly boring conversation he was having with one of the bridesmaids. She kept rambling on about her sister's boyfriend's cat or something or other, fiddling with her dress and twilring her long blonde hair around her finger. Logan forced a small smile and nodded his head, throwing in some words wherever he could fit them. "Mhm. Yeah. I know, right? Yep." he did his best not to smirk as she droned on about being single and liking to party. Typical desperate bridesmaid. She wasn't even trying to cover up her sad attempts at flirting.
Logan ran a hand through his hair and took another sip of corona lime. At least his future sister-in-law had had the decency to have a semi-normal beer available at the cocktail bar. Although the little lime wedge wasn't doing much to boost his manhood. He brought his attention back to the blonde just as she was asking him if he was seeing anyone. "What? Oh, no, not really..." he said somewhat absent-mindedly, his eyes darting around once more for an escape. He barely caught her face fall before he spotted something out of the corner of his eye that stole his attention. Was that Kate? Oh, thank God. "Um, it was nice talking to you, excuse me." he said, shooting her a quick nod before moving over to Kate as quickly as he could.
A smile slipped across his face as he approached her. "Kate! What are you doing here?" he asked pleasantly, wrapping his arms around her small frame and picking her a few inches off the ground before spinning her around, putting her down, and pulling away. "You have no idea how glad I am to see you" he said with a chuckle, lightly tossing his head towards the moping blonde. "Anyway, I thought you weren't flying in until tomorrow?" he asked curiously, sticking his back hand in his pocket again. "Not that I'm complaining." He laughed. Having her so far away for so long just made it painfully obvious how big of a role she played in his daily life. He did his best to push the thought to the back of his mind and play it cool though. It was obvious she cared for Holton and the last thing he wanted to do was get in the way of that again.

Kate smiled seeing his expression as he was conversing with the bridesmaid. At least his new sister-in-law had a good taste in colors. Plum for the sash around the mid-section, and a burnt orange dress. When Kate gets married she'd want champagne and truffle if it were in the summer, and soft colors for fall. She'd been thinking about details of her wedding since she turned 18, but she didn't want to always think about it. It was always a different guy when she thought about it. First it was a celebrity that she liked, and then it would be the guy she was dating.
She looked at him and crossed her arms and looked around at the flowers and admired them. She'd been to Ridgeview a few times, but never to the country club, so this was something that she wanted to remember. She looked back over again and their eyes met. She smiled and slightly waved at him and watched him make his getaway exit and walked over to her. He had the largest smile on his face, and she couldn't help but smile back. She laughed and smiled as he picked her up and spun her around. " I came back a day early, and I wanted to surprise you," she said and smiled and let go of him. " I must give your sister-in-law Kaitlynn props for picking this place. It's very nice, she has good tastes," said Kate and brushed back some of her hair and couldn't stop smiling. It was good to see Logan. He was one of the best guys in her life, and he knew it. " Look at you, in a tux. It looks good on you," she smiled and looked over at the girl who he was just talking to. She looked like she was impatient.

"Well, mission accomplished. And here I thought I thought I was going to have to bear the boring speeches all by myself." he joked, a slight twinkle in his eye. "It's really great to see you... you look amazing" he said sincerely. Logan's couldn't help but to softly look over her appearance. Actually, saying she looked amazing was an understatement. Kate always looked good, but today she looked particularly beautiful.
A few small locks of her brown trusses fell around her face and he was tempted to sweep them away, but he controlled himself. For the most part anyway. Before he knew it his eyes had shifted to her legs, his gaze lingering there for a few moments longer than he had intended... he couldn't help it. It wasn't very often he got to see her in heels. Suddenly her words caught his ears and his eyes were brought back to her face with an innocent sort of grin, hoping she wouldn't notice. "Yeah, it's not so bad. And hey, there's an open bar, so no complaints here." he smirked, taking another sip of his corona.
He made a face at her compliment, looking down to asses his attire. Kaitlynn had made sure the groomsmen were well dressed, but he'd managed to get away with a nice pair of his converse tennis shoes. "Thanks. I guess I do look pretty dapper." he joked, bringing his chocolate brown eyes back to hers. Honestly he didn't know why they were forced to dress up for the rehearsal dinner, but there was no way he was going to argue with a stressed out bride the day before her wedding.
"So I'm assuming you already talked to mom? I'm sure she was happy to see you. I know uncle Bomar will be." he chuckled, glancing around to see if he could spot him. His eyes shifted back to her glowing face and he smiled to himself. She really was a sight for sore eyes. "Come on, let's go say hi to dad, I know he'll want to see you." he said, gently placing his hand on the small of her back and nudging her through a small crowd of people. "Want something to drink?

She pretended to light up when he mentioned that there was an open bar and she put on a show, " Oh no, not an open bar. Anything but an open bar! How tempting," she moaned and laughed. She smiled at his compliment that she looked beautiful, and she blushed a little and looked down. She didn't mind hearing it, but it was nice to be complimented on how she looked. It wasn't everyday that she wore a fancy short dress, AND heels. She was a knock out in heels. Holten always would tease her when she wore heels and would tell her that he was still always taller than her,but still just the right height for him to kiss her. He was always the charmer. Kate smiled and looked him up and down. Dress slacks, a white collared shirt and black tie, and not to mention the chuck taylor's that he wore. Kaitlynn let him get away with those?! She was a fan of the Chucks and she smiled.
She nodded in reply to having already seen his mother, " I did, she doesn't look in anyway stressed...yet," she chuckled." I didn't see your dad, so I'm assuming he is with your brother. My guess he's giving him the wedding night talk. I hear it can be quite shocking," she joked and laughed, and when he mentioned his uncle Bomar being there she looked around like a hawk. Where was he!? When he touched the small of her back, she moved forward, she linked her arm with his, and knew that girl would get jealous. " I would love a drink, you took the words right out of my mouth," Kate replied as they made their way back to the party, and to the bar area. They stayed close together, and she ordered a Corona with lime and she slowly drank some of it. The cool drink touched her lips and she closed her eyes. It tasted so good. She lowered the glass and swallowed it. She looked around and then looked ack at Logan and gently leaned into him. " Soooooo, great party," she joked and playfully nudged him. She noticed a few guests staring at them, let them stare, and assume they were a couple. What could it hurt? After all, she was his wedding date.
She bit her lip and was about to say something else when she spotted his dad, and he made his way across the lot. He smiled and reached out his arms to her, and gently embraced her, " Katiebelle, you look more beautiful everytime I see you. You need to come around more often," he said as he gave her a genuine smile and hugged her again. He turned to his son and smiled, and secretly wiggled his eyebrows at him when Kate was looking away. " Well I better go and make sure everything is set for tomorrow. I will see you two later tonight," he smiled and walked away. Kate smiled and looked at Logan. He was just like his father, and that's what made her smile. All the Harding men were genuine, true, and knew how to treat their women. " No sign of Uncle Bomar yet, I think I'm safe," she whispered as she leaned into him.

"Oh God, the wedding talk. Yeah, I got a revised version of that right before my first date. Scared for life." he joked. Feeling her arm link with his, he couldn't help but smile to himself, strutting right past the jealous looking blonde. Ahh, weddings. They brought out the best in people... his eyes scanned over the crowd of guests all dressed in their best black tie attire. The band of violinist and cellist were playing motzart or something or other, lending to the classiness of the evening. Honestly, Logan never really was one for fine things. It wasn't that he was un-cultured, he just enjoyed things simple. He knew he brother did too, so this must have all been Kaitlynn's doing. He didn't know her very well, but she seemed like a nice person, and he could tell she made Brandon happy, so that was all the mattered he supposed. Hey, whatever floats his boat. Personally Logan had always wanted a simple lakeside wedding with just a few family and friends, that is, if the day ever came...
Kate's words broke him of his thoughts and he glanced down to see her leaning gently against him. He smiled and looked around again, taking another sip of his drink. "Yeah, I'm diggin' the cello actually. But you know, I think it just needs a little something to really take it over the top..." he squinted his eyes and pretended to think for a second. "A fire throwing act." he snapped his finger and acted enlightened. "Yep, that's it. Perfect. I can't believe I didn't think of it before." a small chuckle escaped his throat as he shook his head and looked back to Kate. Just then his dad came over and Logan stepped back to let him wrap his arms around her affectionately. Kate was the first girl he had ever really brought home to his family, and they were always giving him a hard time about not getting back together with her. Logan rolled his eyes slightly as his dad shot him a look, but they both quickly got it together as Kate's glance turned their direction.
As soon as his father left Logan's eyes met Kate's and he returned her warm smile. 'No sign of Uncle Bomar yet, I think I'm safe' Logan laughed as she glanced around. "Yeah he's probably already passed out" Logan shook his head. "Either that or Kaitlynn has him locked up somewhere" he laughed, bringing the beer to his lips again and glancing around. Just then the music stopped and they announced that everyone should take a seat and dinner would be served. "Come on," Logan gently linked his arm with hers and moved over to the seating area, pulling out her chair before sliding into his own next to his brother. "Hey man, getting nervous yet?" he nudged him with his elbow. His brother chuckled, but it seemed strained. 'Just a little'. "You'll be fine" Logan reassured him before nodding at Kaitlynn and turning back to Kate. "Get ready for those infamous speeches" he whispered, smirking a little before turning his attention back to the bride and groom.

Kate looked around the venue at all the guests. She felt so crowded, and it made her feel uncomfortable, but she kept it well under wraps. As long as she had Logan at her side, she was as cool as a cucumber. She drank some more of her Corona that Logan got her and thought of her own wedding, simple yet elegant, and maybe around 100 guests. If not less. She didn't want to make a big deal of it, but she wanted it to be unforgettable. A small wedding, she would be walking down the aisle, and there would be her future hubby whoever he may be waiting to take her hand in the end. A small smile came to her lips and she bit her lip as she looked at Kaitlynn with her arm around Brandon as they greeted their guests. They looked so happy, and so in love. She shook her head, this was their day, and not for her to be visualizing her own.
Her concentration was broken when he commented on the small piece orchestra set that his new sister-in-law had requested. True, the cello was a nice touch to the violin and the flute duo. She looked at Logan and almost choked on her drink when he mentioned a flame throwing act, " Alright Logan, you can have that at your wedding. Just don't light the bride's dress on fire and I think you'll be safe," she smiled and patted his arm. " However, if you wanted to be truly daring you could also throw in a sword sallower, and a dancing bear and you got yourself a party," she smiled and nudged him softly. They were so cute together and they also complimented each other in their temperaments.
Everyone was seated and were all given champagne. The first person to stand was Logan's father, who welcomed and thanked everyone for coming, and raised his glass to Brandon and Kaitlynn. He wished them both happiness, and everyone wished them well as they raised their glasses. Kate leaned over and whispered, " That wasn't so bad," and she smiled. The his father called upon Logan to say a few words. Kate knew Logan didn't really like public speaking, but it was for Brandon, so maybe he could make an exception. Kate eased him forward in his chair and watched him walk up to the front to stand next to his dad. As he would look at her, she would give him a small and encouraging smile, so as to let him know that there was nothing to be afraid of. She listened to how Logan gave some good words of advice to them and he wished them all the happiness in the world, and he wished that someday he could find that kind of happiness as well. Everyone clapped and raised their glasses. When Logan sat down, she leaned forward again and said as they clapped, " You will," and she gently kissed his cheek.

Logan's could barely keep his eyes off of Kate, his mouth stuck in an inevitable grin as she joked back with him, her chocolate eyes twinkling with amusement. There was something about seeing her face light up when he made some stupid joke that made him want to never stop making her laugh. She had the most beautiful laugh Logan had ever heard. And her smile, with those soft pink lips... suddenly Logan realized he was staring and he quickly snapped back to reality. 'Alright Logan, you can have that at your wedding. Just don't light the bride's dress on fire and I think you'll be safe,' He smirked as she patted his arm playfully. 'However, if you wanted to be truly daring you could also throw in a sword sallower, and a dancing bear and you got yourself a party,' Logan laughed. "Alright, Kate, come on now, that's a bit much." he joked sarcastically.
Soon they were seated at the table and his father was thanking everyone for coming, saying a few words for Kaitlynn and Brandon. Logan raised his glass and nodded towards the couple before taking a rather large sip of his champagne. Logan usually didn't have a problem speaking to people, but there was something about public speaking that rattled his nerves a bit. Especially with an already nervous bride who 'playfully' threatened to cut him if he said anything stupid or embarrassing. Logan smirked to himself at the thought. Kaitlynn sure was character. But she kept Brandon serious and motivated, while Brandon managed to keep her fun and easy-going. They balanced each other out, so to speak. 'That wasn't so bad'. Kate's words floated to his ears and he sent a small smile her way as the clapping died down. As soon as his father called him up, Logan stood, somewhat reluctantly, from his chair and made his way to the front.
He cleared his throat and took the mic in his hands. As soon as he began talking his eased up a little bit and started to relax. Before he knew it he was talking to his brother and future sister-in-law with out a problem, wishing them all the best and expressing his hope that he could find a love like theirs someday. Then it hit him. He already had. Suddenly he realized that Kate was the only woman he'd ever truly care for. There was just something about her that made him inexplicably happy; and he couldn't explain it. Until now, that was. He could only hope that one day, maybe she would feel the same way. But even if she didn't, he knew he wasn't going anywhere. She was his best friend, and he would spend the rest of his life trying to make her happy if she let him. Even if it just meant being her friend. Logan shook his thoughts and finished up his speech the best he could, trying to keep his emotions under the wraps.
As soon as the glasses were raised and the clapping began, Logan nodded to his dad and went back to his table, sliding into his seat next to Kate. He was almost afraid that if he made eye contact with her that she would be able to read the millions of dangerous thoughts that were swirling through his head. From the corner of his eye he could see her leaning towards him to whisper in his ear again. 'You will'. Logan's heart skipped a beat for some reason. Could she tell what he was thinking? Her words were warm and affectionate, but to him they seemed to hold an underlining tone that he just couldn't quite put his fingers on. He swallowed hard and brought his eyes to hers, forcing a soft smile across his lips. Without a word, he gently reached over and took her delicate hand in his. He glanced down at their hands for a second before lifting his eyes back to hers, silently trying to communicate what he couldn't say, and feared that he never would.

Kate watched Logan give his heartfelt speech and she just smiled in awe, and she was also proud of him because she knew that he meant every word that he said. Logan doesn't beat around the bush with anything, he is very honest and open. When he finished his speech, she raised her glass and sipped her champagne before he made his way back to his seat and sat down. As he took her hand, she looked into his eyes, and so badly wanted to tell him what was going on in her head. Things like, ' Logan, Holten is dead/missing and I'm heartbroken. Please hold me.', or ' Logan please just hold me.' How badly she wanted to say that, but she dared not. She broke their gaze, and she slipped her hand gently out of his when the exquisite dinner was served. Clearly they spared no expense on the rehearsal dinner, and probably most likely the wedding to.
During the course of the dinner, Kate conversed with the guests around her, but also kept an ear out for what Logan was talking about. It drove her insane that she was sitting next time him, and yet at the same time she couldn't bring herself to say what she need and wanted to tell him. When dinner was over, this gave a chance for everyone to talk to each other, go check into their hotels, or go fool around. It was getting late, and a few of the groomsmen, bridesmaids, and a few friends of the bride and groom were going to go hang out on the golf course. It was getting late, and the moon was out, so what's wrong in running around like maniacs before the big day. Before she had left to join them, she was pulled aside, and Logan's mother insisted that she stay with them that evening. She thanked her and accepted her invitation.
Once on the golf course, they all ran around, playing games and making noises. Why they were doing this, who knows, but it was fun. Kate slipped off her shoes and carried them in her hand and watched the groomsmen try and tackle Brandon to the ground. She softly laughed and watched Logan help them. Finn, the second groomsman, ran up to Kate and suddenly picked her up over his shoulder and she shrieked. Clearly he had too much of the celebratory champagne and what other spirits they were serving. He spun her around, " Who dares me to throw her into the pond," he chuckled Kate hit his back. " Don't you dare," she growled. No way in hell she was going into that pond! This was a Valentino dress she was borrowing just for the occasion.

The look in Kate's eyes as they met his made Logan feel a little uneasy. He wasn't sure what it was, but there was definitely something on her mind. Knowing Kate though, she would keep it bottled up inside until he practically shook it out of her. She was incredibly stubborn when she wanted to be, and keeping her emotions to herself was one of her strong suits. He would find out eventually, but right now this was Brandon and Kaitlynn's night, so he did his best to push the thought from his mind. The dinner was a welcome distraction to the slight tension that still lingered in the air. Desperate to keep his own emotions in check, Logan turned his thoughts from Kate and began conversing with Brandon, double checking what his duties were for tomorrow. Showing up, bringing the tuxes, guarding the rings, and returning the tuxes to the rental place the next day. That should be easy enough. Although the worried look on Kaitlynn's face made it obvious that she didn't think he could handle it. Logan smirked to himself in amusement and finished his meal rather quietly.
After dinner was over and the guests began to dwindle, a groomsmen suggested heading to the golf course for some after party fun. It took a bit to convince Kaitlynn, but with some persisting, she finally loosened up and decided to go along with it. It really was a perfect night to spend under the stars. The sky was clear and the moon let off a bright light. A cool breeze wafted through the air, offsetting the rather warm day. Logan rolled up his shirt sleeves and loosened his tie just as the groomsmen began to tackle Brandon, ignoring the somewhat half-hearted requests from the bride for them to stop. Brandon readily retaliated, however, ducking to take our their legs and throw them to the ground. Logan laughed and wrestled with his brothers, letting his mind wander from all the things that had been swirling in his head earlier.
Suddenly Logan's attention was taken as he heard Kate's shriek. He glanced over just in time to see Finn playfully tossing her over his shoulder and spinning around to face the group. 'Who dares me to throw her in the pond?' he asked mischeviously as Kate began to flail her arms and legs in protest. Admittedly, Logan chuckled at the sight, along with a few of the other guys who began to egg Finn on with encouragement. "Here guys, I got this" Logan rushed over and grabbed Kate from Finn, who was obviously inebriated. If he got too close to any body of water, someone was likely going to drown. Laughing, Logan ran over to the pond and pretended like he was going to toss her in. He stopped just short though, spinning her around a few times before gently setting her back on the ground and bracing himself for her to smack him.
Before long the alcohol started wearing off and their little group slowly began disappearing to check into their hotel rooms and get some sleep before the wedding. Logan wished his brother and soon-to-be sister in law goodnight, and looked over to Kate. "Well, I guess that just leaves us." he lowered himself to the ground and sat down on the fake grass, looking out over the pond. The silence was nice, and they sat their for a few minutes just letting the sound of the crickets fill the air. "So what's on your mind, Kate?" He asked bluntly, his tone teetering on soft and challenging as he turned his eyes to hers. "I know something's bothering you." he said, letting a soft, encouraging smile grace his features. "You don't have to tell me right now if you don't want to, but don't think I'm going to let you get away with it for long." he smirked slightly before moving his eyes back to the pond, hoping he wasn't being too forward. Kate was known to get a bit defensive when she didn't want to share something.

Kate was set back on the ground after Logan so gallantly rescued her from a near accident with Finn. She looked back at Finn and the others, and Finn looked like he had way too much to drink. She looked at Logan, and wanted to thank him but she wanted to smack him at the same time for nearly doing what Finn was going to do. She raised her arm as if to smack him, her arm came down, and she slapped his arm. " Don't scare me like that again," she said softly and was partially serious, but a small smile came to her lips. How could she be mad at him after he "saved" her from actually being almost thrown in. She brushed some loose blades of grass from his clean pressed shirt, and one out of his hair. She looked at him, and heard the rest of the group winding down and leaving. She walked over to Brandon and Kaitlynn, and wished them a good nights sleep before their wedding. She smiled and waved goodbye.
Kate walked to where Logan was standing next to the lake, looking out onto the rest of the gold green, and she gently sat down on his jacket that he offered her. She took off her heels so she could release the pain of those dreaded things. Why do girls put themselves through things like this anyway? She looked out around the course, the air got cool as the fireflies came out, and flew around them and the crickets sang their evening croons. Kate was about to lean into Logan, but he cut her short when he asked her what she was thinking about, and he must have known something was up. She had to admit, she wasn't her usual cheery self.
She folded her legs to the side of herself, and played with a small blade of grass. What was on her mind? Where to begin? So much was going on, but the main subject was Holten. She didn't want to tell him just yet. If she told him that she was thinking of him and that she was so worried, then he would not focus on his brother's wedding, and he needed that since he was the Best Man. She pulled the blade of grass apart and took a soft deep breath, " I'd like to tell you what's on my mind right now Logan, but I don't want it to spoil your thoughts for tomorrow." She swallowed a lump in her throat and looked at him. The look of concern was in his eyes, and now she was freaking out. Crap! Now she'd done it. " I would prefer to tell you after the wedding," she said and placed her hand on his knee and felt the soft fabric under her hand. She looked at him left it at that.
They hung out on the golf course till late, and they both got up and made their way to the Harding's home. She was so tired, so she rode piggy back on Logan, and gently wrapped her arm around his neck. She walked up the stairs to the guest room and curled up in the bed.
